Visas & immigration

Visa categories, documentation and where to check official requirements.

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ For Americans

Americans can apply via the Royal Thai Embassy in Washington DC or consulates in LA, Chicago and New York, and most now use the Thai e-Visa portal.

Common options

Long-stay residents typically consider the Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) for remote workers, the Long-Term Resident (LTR) visa, retirement (Non-O / O-A) visas, Non-B work visas tied to an employer, education visas and the Thailand Privilege (Elite) membership.

Documents to prepare

A passport with at least 6 months' validity, recent bank statements, proof of address in Thailand (your lease helps), health insurance certificates where required, and passport photos.

After you arrive

Most long-stay visa holders must report their address every 90 days and file a TM30 residence notification β€” your landlord usually files this, but confirm it.
